A small Danish alternative for email, calendar, contacts and Bluesky identity

Hi, I’m the founder of Skyen.live, a small Danish digital identity platform I’m building as an alternative to relying entirely on Big Tech for email and online identity. The basic idea is simple: one account where you can get a real email address, webmail, IMAP/SMTP, calendar and contacts sync, plus a Bluesky handle like @yourname.skyen.live. The free plan includes: 1 email address with 1 GB storage Webmail IMAP/SMTP, so you can use Thunderbird, Apple Mail, Outlook or mobile mail apps CalDAV and CardDAV for calendar and contacts 1 Bluesky handle No credit card required Paid plans add more mailboxes, more storage, more Bluesky handles, and on the larger plans, Bluesky PDS hosting. I’m not trying to pretend this is a giant Proton/Fastmail replacement overnight. It is a small, independent service run by one person with many years of IT infrastructure experience. The tradeoff is that you are not dealing with a huge corporation, but also not getting the scale of one. For some people that is a downside. For others, that transparency is exactly the point. What I’m trying to build is: email based on open standards no lock-in exportable data simple pricing EU/GDPR-friendly hosting useful Bluesky/AT Protocol tools something normal people can actually use without setting up DNS, servers or self-hosting There is also a free Bluesky post scheduler that works with an existing Bluesky account, even if you do not use a Skyen.live handle. A quick update since this post is now 10 days old: two fairly major releases have landed. v1.2: You can now use a domain you already own for email. Skyen guides you through the required SPF, DKIM and DMARC records, and the domain remains yours if you later move elsewhere. v1.21: You can now create a free Skyen account without providing an existing email address or phone number. You receive a unique login handle and an eight-word recovery phrase that only you keep. This means your new Skyen address can genuinely be your first and only email account. Full changelog: https://skyen.live/changelog Still very much a small, independently built service, so feedback is genuinely useful.
