People debating how good/bad/effective/worth denormalizing makeup is often exaggerate in one direction or another. https://polls.io/tfiht/vote Brooke looks much prettier with her normal makeup on, but she's still basically a cutie without it.
The human mind is very receptive to contrast, too, so it makes her look plainer without makeup that everyone sees her covered in makeup most of the time. AND she's next to Sam in both photos so we're subconsciously comparing the two in each photo. I actually think the lighting on Sam's face looks better on him in the second photo.
Without makeup, is he more attractive for his gender? Maybe. It's hard to tell without getting used to how women look more naturally first.
