Do some sites intentionally make the web version worse to push the app

I swear some sites feel way worse on the web than they should be. Slow UI, weird popups, constant nagging to open the app. Then you install the app and suddenly everything is smoother and of course ads are harder to block. Also ngl, some major platforms feel borderline unusable on the web now. YouTube especially. The web UI feels clunkier every year.

They block ad blockers to push the app and add more unskippable ads to push YouTube Premium. It is all because there is basically zero competition.
