People talk about talent like it is some magical mindset thing. It is not. In sports, talent is physical. Height, wingspan, reaction time and durability. That is the lottery ticket.
Once you have the body, the rest is mostly work. Skill is reps. IQ is film and experience. Clutch is getting used to pressure.
Look at soccer defenders. If you are under 180 cm, your odds drop hard. You can be smart and technical, but if you cannot win duels, you might not even get minutes.
A lot of defending is not some beautiful tackle compilation. It is body contact, shoving someone off the line, winning the sprint, getting there first, and making the other guy bounce off you.
If you do not have the physical tools for a sport, you can still improve a lot. But the ceiling is real.
Physical genetics is the only real talent in sports. Everything else is effort.
